I’m an Australian currently living in Canada, and like an explorer of a new world I have been relishing meeting new bird and animal species.
I’ve been drawing and painting for about 20 years. I’m particularly inspired by birds - I'm fascinated by their colours and designs, and I find the whole process of studying and capturing them on paper an absolute joy.
As inspired as I am by nature and a walk in the woods, I am also swept away by all things opulent and decorative: in architecture, art and home decor, the baroque and rococo styles, toile de Jouy, antiques, the luscious and detailed still life’s of the 17th Century Dutch Masters, as well as natural history illustration ... and the list goes on.
This collage I've created illustrates just a few of my inspirations for the current series of drawings in my gallery. I was inspired by fanciful design and strong silhouettes, and the fantastical world of birds and nature.
I also write and illustrate children’s books. But that’s another story, on another website: www.tinaburke.com.au
